The left-leaning fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) and staunch ally Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) on Friday revealed that Bahrain’s business delegation will be in Manila to scout for lands available for production of rice, fruit and vegetable for the consumption of the growing population of Persian Gulf state.

APC joins the call for a GM Free India

The militant Asian Peasant Coalition (APC) and Tamil Nadu Women’s Forum (TNWF) joins the call for “GM Free India”. In a joint statement, APC and TNWF says, “Demonstrations in India had spread all over to protest the use of genetically modified crops in the country. We demand that the GM technology be banned as it was against the Indian farmers' interest.”

Report of the International Peasant Solidarity Mission (IPSM)

The present human rights situation in the Philippines worsened under the regime of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (GMA), beset with the worst economic and political crisis, intensified its political repression and state terrorism against political activist and the people. From 2001 to July 2006, Karapatan (a human rights watchdog), recorded 720 political killings and rampant human rights violations (HRVs), 54% of the victims are peasants.

APC appeals to Chief Justice:release KMP leader

The secretariat of the Asian Peasant Coalition (APC) will submit a letter of appeal to Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno next week. The APC appeals to Hon. Puno to act immediately on the case of Randal Echanis, deputy secretary general for external affairs of the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP). He is currently in jail for about 17 months due to a fabricated crime he did not commit.

ADB has failed - witnesses testify in opinion tribunal

Bali, Indonesia- Ten witnesses took the stand today to testify how Asian Development Bank (ADB) has violated their rights and the rights of the Asia Pacific people, in an international opinion tribunal.

The multilateral lender has been charged with gross violations of economic, social, and cultural rights of the Asia- Pacific region; civil and political rights; and peoples’ national sovereignty and right to self-determination in the two-day Asia Pacific Peoples’ Tribunal on ADB, being held at the Udayana University in Denpasar.
