WB’s seven principles are seven deadly sins of global landgrabbing and against farmers’ interests

The Asia-wide farmers’ group, Asian Peasant Coalition (APC) and Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP, Peasant Movement of the Philippines) slammed World Bank’s (WB) “seven principles” of making socially-acceptable land deals and equated it to a bogus land reform program of a WB-puppet government such as Philippines’ Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo government.

MANILA, Philippines—An alliance on Thursday called for the immediate shut down of the International Rice Research Institute for allegedly failing to help the country become self-sufficient in rice production even after 50 years of the institute’s existence.

The group RESIST! Agrochemical TNCs, an alliance of farmers, scientists and NGOs, said that despite of 50 years of operation, IRRI has failed to provide the Philippines with enough rice.
