MILITANT legislators on Thursday called for the immediate and unconditional pullout of all military personnel in Hacienda Luisita, even as they proposed a collective ownership and cultivation of the lands by more than 6,296 farmworker-beneficiaries (FWBs) and transform it into a model farm community following the Supreme Court (SC) ruling with finality on the distribution of the sugar plantation in Tarlac owned by the family of President Aquino.

April 17, 2012 - The militant peasant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) today trooped to Mendiola Bridge in Manila and assailed President Aquino for his inaction on rice farmers’ demand to increase the buying price of palay to P20 per kilo.

KMP spokesperson Antonio Flores said “it’s already harvest time and the Aquino government remain deaf on our demand to increase the farmgate prices of palay to P20 per kilo.”

April 12, 2012 - The militant peasant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and the Kaisahang Pambansa ng mga Magsasaka sa Koprahan (KOPRAHAN) today demanded the Aquino government to “immediately pave the way for the return of the coco levy funds and assets to small coconut farmers and not to use it at will.”

Thus, said the militant peasant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and the Kaisahang Pambansa ng mga Magsasaka sa Koprahan (Koprahan) today saying that “the Presidential Commission on Good Government and pseudo-coconut farmer-leaders’ representation in SMC and the UCPB failed to ensure the immediate return of the funds to small coconut farmers.”

Rice farmers across the country gathered on February 14, 2012 at the University of Philippines in Quezon City in a summit dubbed as National Rice Farmers’ Conference organized by the peasant groups Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), Amihan – National Federation of Peasant Women, and the party-list group Anakpawis to demand the increase in the prices of palay (unhusked rice) to P20.00 per kilo citing, among others, the increase in the costs of production brought by the unabated oil price hikes.

More than 100 activist farmers led by the peasant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) today stormed the United States embassy in Manila with paint bombs saying the protest “signals the start of a series of militant actions against the planned joint military exercises between US and Philippine troops” set on April 16 to 27 this year.
