The Pakistan Kissan Mazdoor Tehreek (PKMT), an alliance of small and landless farmers and Roots for Equity held a protest on April 8, 2014 in front of the Punjab Assembly against the proposed Punjab Seed Act 2013, which according to Secretary Agriculture Punjab, Muslim League (N) government in Punjab is to table soon. Similarly, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government has also tabled the KPK Seed Act on January 15, 2014.

The chairman of the House committee on agrarian reform admitted yesterday it would be an uphill climb for the genuine agrarian reform bill (GARB) to be passed in the 16th Congress.
Ifugao Rep. Teddy Brawner Baguilat asked agrarian reform advocates to also convince legislators, including members of Senate, to pass the measure, which calls for the distribution of all agricultural lands to farmers “at no cost.”
“As for GARB, it will have fair hearing. But I alone can’t assure its passage,” he said in an interview.
