Dear APC members and colleagues,
We are happy to share with you the victory of Upper Puerto farmers belonging to the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas or Peasant Movement of the Philippines (KMP) in Northern Mindanao Region (NMR) against Oroville Development Corporation (ODC).
The conflict started in 2012 when ODC built several iron gates within 86 hectare of land in Upper Macanhan, Carmen in Cagayan de Oro which is under the coverage of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) of the government.
The Pagkakaisa para sa Tunay na Repormang Agraryo (PATRIA) and Resistance and Solidarity Against Agro-chemical TNCs (RESIST) gathered more than a crowd of 100 participants in a forum tackling the US’ role in the landlessness in the Philippines. The event entitled “Feeding Lies, Subverting Agrarian Reform” filled up the College of Communication Auditorium in the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City last October 8.
