APC Calls for the Unconditional Release of Dr. Sunil Mandiwal

The Asian Peasant Coalition (APC) demands for the unconditional release of Dr. Sumil Mandiwal, an Assistant Professor at the Dayal Singh College, Delhi University. He is a well known champion of the peoples cause.

Biplab Halim, APC Chairperson stated, "He actively joins gathering in New Delhi that raises their voice against all forms of atrocities of the state on the people of the subcontinent. He is at the forefront to unmask the real fascist, pro-corporate face of the state in the Operation Green Hunt, perhaps the biggest land grab ever in history after that of Columbus ."

According to the statement, this incident is another attempt of the state to vilify and silence voices of dissent. We strongly condemned this act and we will not be cowed to pursue our struggles.

P. Chennaiah, APC deputy secretary general remarked, "that his wife stated that during the arrest, she was vaguely told that Dr. Mandiwal was being taken away for questioning in relation to Mr. Kobad Ghandy, who is in Tihar charged under UAPA and an alleged senior Maoist leader.”

"We are concerned that he may be tortured to harass him and forced him to give information that might be used against him. We demand that he be given access to a lawyer and not to violate his right to silence through intimidation and torture. He should be immediately released and we demand an apology from the AP and Delhi police," Halim and P. Chennaiah ended. #
