APC Condemns NATO Summit

As the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) celebrates its 60th anniversary, the militant Asian Peasant Coalition (APC), with 21 organizational members in 9 countries in Asia , condemns NATO’s destructive military policies.

According to Danilo Ramos, APC Secretary-General and concurrent Secretary General of the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), “NATO has always been under US control as a tool for its military aggression and imperialist dominance. Its expansion of membership to former Soviet countries and promotion of multi-color revolutions near the Russian border with offers of military and economic aid aims to weaken Russia in order to prevent any other country from threatening US hegemony.”

APC denounced the arrest of scores of anti-NATO protesters by French and German police in Strasbourg , France and Baden-Baden and Kehl, in Germany . The protesters were demonstrating against the NATO two-day Summit on April 3-4, 2009.

“We strongly denounce NATO’s military aggression against sovereign countries, largely backed by the United State ’s so-called war on terror. We call on all of our members to hold anti-NATO protest mobilizations and activities to show our strong resistance against military intervention, nuclear weapons and a new arms race. We demand a new world order against imperialist aggression, state terrorism, plunder and social destruction,” ended Ramos. ###
