CALL to support Chilean people against seed privatization

Send to friend

The Asian Peasant Coalition (APC) expresses its support to Chilean people against seed privatization.

We are asking you to sign the petition letter: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/noprivaticenlassemillas to reject the bill on Rights of Breeders of new Plant Varieties which is now being discussed by Chilean Parliament due to Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States (US).

The campaign aims to defend peasants and indigenous communities’ livelihood so that they can continue to freely use their harvests and native seeds. The farming knowledge and food security lies in seeds. Life cannot be patented.

APC support this campaign because we are also against GMOs and we promote sustainable agriculture. We also resist privatization of traditional farming knowledge and agrochemical transnational corporations (TNCs) control in agriculture.

The members of APC in the Philippines such as the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP or Peasant Movement of the Philippines), PAMALAKAYA (National Small Fisherfolk Organizations of the Philippines, AMIHAN (National Peasant Women Network) and UMA (National Union of Agricultural Workers) will stage a protest and hold a dialogue with the secretary of the Department of Agriculture – which served as our counterpart activity in India. #
