The Tamil Nadu Dalit Women’s Movement (TNDWM) is organizing a State Level Conference from August 7 to 8, 2009 at Dalit Women’s Thidal, Palavoy, Arakkonam on “Economic Empowerment of Dalit Women”
Dalit women are economically at the bottom of the ladder. They are being deprived from economic sources due to discriminative practices in day today life in the caste based hierarchal society.
Dalit women are agriculture workers, fisher- folks, work in brick-kiln chambers, manual scavengers, work in Special Economic Zone’s, in leather factories, work as a washer women, they are unorganized vendors selling food, cosmetics. They are discriminated in National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and they are living Below Poverty Line (BPL) and are contributed to the unorganized sectors.
