In a statement today, the militant Asian Peasant Coalition (APC) joins the Mongolia people calling for the protection of its human rights against the ‘Boroo Gold’ mining company.

“The Boroo Gold extracted 41 tones of gold for the first 5 years of taxation relief with a profit of 963 billion tug rug (approximately US $ 875.5 million) and enjoyed the taxation relief of 220 billion tug rug (approximately US $ 200 million),” said Shagdar Ganbuyag, APC Internal Auditor.

The Tamil Nadu Women's Forum (TNWF) organised a seminar on "Rice/Food Crisis and Livelihood" in continued observance of the Year of Rice Action (YORA). The event was held on 18 June 2009 at Kadambanallur, Arakkonam Taluk, Vellore District. Around 100 participants which included farmers, women, agricultural wage labourers, engineers, students, representatives from the Agricultural Department and members of people's movements benefited from the seminar.

In a joint statement, APC and TNWF says, “Demonstrations in India had spread all over to protest the use of genetically modified crops in the country. We demand that the GM technology be banned as it was against the Indian farmers' interest.”

The left-leaning fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) and staunch ally Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) on Thursday exposed what they called a secret agricultural pact between the Philippines and Bahrain.

In a joint press statement, Pamalakaya national chair Fernando Hicap and KMP secretary general Danilo Ramos said the agreement was signed in May 2008 after Bahrain trade minister Hassan Fakhro visited Manila to secure vast plots of land to grow Basmati rice for Bahrain’s consumption.

The militant Asian Peasant Coalition (APC) joins call to stop building of Tipaimukh dam in Borak River East India. In a joint statement today, APC and Bangladesh Krishok Federation (BKF) said they are building up a strong movement against Tipaimukh Dam.

Yesterday (22 June 2009), the BKF joined the protest rally in Dhaka, Bangladesh organized by the Democratic Left Alliance (DLA) and criticized the Indian government's move to build a dam at Tipaimukh in Borak River saying that it would seriously harm the people and the environment in Bangladesh.

The militant peasant group, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP, Peasant Movement of the Philippines) criticized the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Prospero Nograles in pushing through with the Constitutional Assembly and Charter Change (Chacha) and seen the move by the lawmaker being a “broker” for the European Union (EU) as it requested to remove the ban on foreign ownership of land through the World Trade Organization (WTO) provisions.
